The Soldier has come to stand before God, Which all people must come to pass. He hoped his uniform was press, his boots shining, as brightly as his brass.
?Step forward now, Soldier, And how shall I Judge you? Have you always followed my Laws? To My Church have you been true?"
The Soldier bowed his head and said, "No, Lord, I wasn't. Those of us, who stand and protect, Can't be Holy and pleasant.
I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was tough. Many times I had to be violent, because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a dime or penny, that wasn't mine to keep Though, I worked a lot of overtime even when the bills piled way too steep.
I worked hard to keep your laws, oh? Lord. Giving the people the choice to do the same, Even though many called me a criminal, and said I was the one to blame.
I never passed a cry, or a need, for help, though at times I felt tired and week. I stood and looked Evil in the eyes, If not for Soldiers, Peace would not survive.
At times I would stand strong as I would shake with fear And, sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I tried to do the things that are right but many only saw ways to criticize. Telling everyone how it?s just a Game, so they can have Power, Money, or Fame.
My eyes have witnessed such terrible things; my nights are filled with nightmares Thoughts of fallen comrades, who?s loved ones grieve and Stare.
I know I don't deserve a place, among the many people here. They never wanted me around, except to calm their fears.
Is there place for me here? oh Lord, It needn't be so nice or grand. I never expected or much, if you don't, I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne where saints and angels often walk. While the Soldier waited quietly, for his Judgment to be talked.
God looked into the Soldiers heart, and saw what he said was true, And from that, he favored the Soldier?s Flag, ?The RED, White and B...
